Nice gaudy welsh pitcher in the forget me not pattern circa 1860. No major damage but typical age wear and firing defects. Kiln crack on the handle were it meets the body as well as glaze skips. Stands 15 cm tall. I know there are probably not a ton of gaudy welsh and gaudy dutch collectors here in Korea. Most people are probably not too familiar with them. As an interior decorator/designer, they make a great display because they have a bright and contrasting color theme and wonderful shapes and reliefs. By their self, they appear "gaudy" just like their name implies but in a group on display they really are impressive and stand out above everything else. They were made in england from 1950 to about the turn of the century specifically for the american market and more specifically for the Pennsylvania dutch market. They were made as inexpensive blanks and hand painted in typical patterns that were applied fast and easily with the main colors being cobalt blue and contrasting with oranges and greens. Firing flaws are very common as is after market damage due to the fact that they were purchased to be used and not put in a case to look at. Most gaudy items are notmarked with a makers mark.
